CAMBRIDGE MASTERS SWIMMING

Cambridge Masters Swimming is operated and run by the Club members themselves

The goal is to provide smart, enjoyable workouts to adult swimmers of all ages, reduce Club membership fees, increase the number of members, and create a vibrant, warm, and welcoming Masters swimming community. Eight lanes of Harvard’s Blodgett pool will be reserved for the Club’s exclusive use for 75 minutes, weekdays, Monday - Friday, at lunchtime 12:00 - 1:15 pm (Fridays till 1:00 pm). The Club is a gathering of adult swimming enthusiasts whose goals range from fitness swimming to triathlons to competing in Masters swim meets. Affiliation with Harvard by Club members is not required.

Governance

A nonprofit organization operates the Club. This organization's Board of Directors is composed of five current members of the Club - Sue Jensen, Rob Schiller, Paul Gompers, Luis Viceira, and Dan Epstein -  along with Harvard Men’s Swimming coach, Kevin Tyrell, and Harvard Women’s Swimming coach, Amanda Kulik. The Club rents pool-time from Harvard and is subject to the University’s requirements, but it is not operated or owned by the University. The two Harvard varsity coaches are permanent members of the Club’s Board of Directors and are responsible for the Club’s relationship with Harvard. The five other Directors, who are responsible for the Club’s operation, are elected annually by those Club members who have paid for an annual membership or a Winter Season membership.

Membership

Club membership is offered to the public per day, week, and month; for the Fall Session, Winter/Spring Session, and Summer Session; and per year.

Secret Weapon

Engaged, intelligent, skilled coaching is the Club’s differentiator and secret weapon. The Club’s on-deck coaches are drawn from the Harvard Men’s and Women's Swimming teams. These student-athletes, competing in the pool since childhood, analytical about technique, some of them training for US Nationals or Olympics, are passionate and exceedingly knowledgeable about swimming. They bring that passion and knowledge to the swim deck, working closely with any Club member who seeks advice. They're all affable, terrific individuals.
